Food in the Hood is a biweekly neighborhood dinner to raise funds for global charities.

617 Walnut Avenue
Santa Cruz, California

El Andalon
Caravan for Cuba

Customers take whatever they want and donate whatever they want. All proceeds go to a different global charity each week. Ingredients are fair-trade and as local as possible, from the Farmer's Markets or backyards. Students from Santa Cruz High School sometimes help out, play ukuleles, or play with the baby chicks.

Saturday, February 25, 2012 — Avaaz

Hello FitHies

We gave $140 from our last FitH to the Alliance for Kurdish Rights through Mideast Youth. Our Food in the Hood on Saturday, February 25th @ 6:00 will support Avaaz whose petition "We Are All Syrians Now" can be found here.

Visit the Avaaz web site

This week's dishes are from the stylish cookbook Simply Organic written by Jesse Ziff Cool of CoolEatz. She runs the Cool Cafes at Stanford and Menlo Business Park, and the Flea Street Cafe. My favorite cookbooks, like this one, have big, juicy photos and organize their recipes by season.

On to the menu! for Saturday, February 25 at 6:00

These are their "Deep Winter" selections, even though it sure doesn't feel like it here in Santa Cruz:
Please RSVP if you're coming!
